Truth can be right in front of us and still get pushed down. The scariest kind of judgment is the kind you don’t see coming, because life looks fine on the surface. We open Romans 1:18 and ask the question people have asked for centuries: why do the wicked prosper, and why does God seem quiet when evil is loud? Dr. Timothy Mann answers with a sober reminder that God’s wrath can be delayed without being denied, and that a postponed reckoning can still be a righteous reckoning. 

We also dig into what Paul actually means when he says “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven.” That phrase isn’t abstract or poetic. Romans doesn’t start by telling us we’re basically fine and just need a boost. It starts by telling the truth. As we continue From Guilty to Glory, Dr. Timothy Mann slows down over Romans 1:18-19 and tackles a doctrine many people avoid: the wrath of God. Not as a shock tactic, and not as human rage projected onto God, but as the Bible’s description of God’s settled, holy opposition to sin and to the suppression of truth.

We walk through why Paul leads with judgment before he offers the way of escape. If we only talk about the benefits of salvation, we shrink the gospel into sentiment and we blur the moral seriousness of sin. The gospel sounded laughable in Rome: a message from a conquered people about a crucified Savior, preached to common folks and slaves while philosophers debated truth and legions projected power. Yet Paul writes one of the boldest lines in Scripture, and we slow down to feel its weight: “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16). 

We follow Paul’s mindset as he calls himself a debtor to all people and eager to bring the good news to the very center of the empire. Then we unpack why he is so confident, not in his personality or strategy, but in the gospel itself: its origin in God, its operation as God’s power, and its outcome in real salvation, deliverance from the penalty and power of sin. Rome wasn’t exactly famous for spiritual softness, so why does Paul sound so confident as he opens his greatest letter? We start a brand new “From Guilty To Glory” series in Romans with Dr. Timothy Mann’s message, “The Gospel That Shook the World,” and we begin where Paul begins: the gospel of God, centered on Jesus Christ, powerful enough to save anyone who believes.

Jesus asks a question that cuts through religion, excuses, and image management: “What do you seek?” That single line from John 1 becomes the diagnostic for every heart, and it forces us to name what we are really chasing: comfort, meaning, approval, control, or Christ himself.

We continue the Basic Training mini-series by talking about the “core competencies” that mark a mature Christian and a healthy church. We connect discipleship to the Great Commission and get practical about what maturity looks like on the ground. We revisit worship as a weekly, corporate priority that declares God’s worth, not just with words but with our calendars. We also talk about serving God with the seriousness of someone who belongs to Jesus, because the gospel says we are redeemed by Christ’s blood and our lives are no longer our own.

Your habits on Sunday might be shaping your heart more than you think. Grounded in Matthew 4:8-10 and Jesus’ refusal to bow to anyone but God, we connect worship and service as inseparable parts of biblical discipleship. Two words can cut through a lifetime of shame. When Jesus looks straight at Levi, a tax collector everyone loves to hate, he doesn’t bargain, lecture, or demand a probation period. He simply says, “Follow me.” From Luke 5:27–32, we trace how that call exposes our deepest need and why the gospel of Jesus Christ is built for real guilt, not cleaned-up appearances.

We talk honestly about how spiritual need shows up in crisis, but also how it can be hidden in comfortable church life. When we mistake external “togetherness” for heart health, we drift into a self-righteous subculture with little room for messy people and little sympathy for sinners. Jesus’ warning lands hard: the ones who think they’re well rarely run to the Physician.

Then we step into Levi’s world and see why his conversion is so shocking. The tax system rewarded extortion, and tax collectors were treated like traitors, excluded and despised. God’s patience is not a reason to relax, it’s a reason to get serious. We wrap up a hard-hitting message from 2 Peter 3 where Dr. Timothy Mann presses one command home: be diligent. The most dangerous spiritual lie is the one that sounds reasonable: “If God were really going to judge the world, it would have happened by now.” Dr. Timothy Mann takes that objection head-on through 2 Peter chapter 3, where Peter answers the scoffers who treat God’s promises like empty threats and use “delay” as permission to keep living as they please.

“Where is the promise of His coming?” That one sentence has fueled doubt for centuries, and 2 Peter 3 treats it like a flashing warning light for every generation. We open God’s Word and deal honestly with what scoffers do, why they do it, and why their confidence rests on selective memory rather than careful truth.

We trace Peter’s argument that Scripture is reliable and unified from the prophets to Jesus to the apostles. Biblical prophecy is not given to create armchair experts or endless arguments about tribulation timelines. Freedom is one of the most abused words in modern spirituality, and 2 Peter 2:17–22 doesn’t let us keep a soft, sentimental definition. “Freedom” is one of the most celebrated words in American life, but it can also be one of the easiest words to weaponize. They promise “freedom,” but what if the offer is really a cage? We dig into 2 Peter chapter 2 and the uncomfortable gap between religious-sounding words and a life that actually submits to the truth of God. From the start, we track how false teachers and apostates use bait that feels modern and compassionate, liberty, fulfillment, happiness, “find your true self” language, while quietly twisting the grace of God into permission to sin.

We also talk about who gets hit first: unstable souls. Spiritual instability and double-minded living make us easy targets for subtle deception inside the church. Peter’s diagnosis goes deeper than bad ideas. He exposes a heart trained in covetousness, greed that never says “enough,” and the kind of exploitation that treats people as a means to personal gain. A false teacher rarely announces himself as false. He shows it over time through patterns, priorities, and the kind of “boldness” that is really just rebellion with a religious microphone. Dr. Timothy Mann takes us to 2 Peter 2:10–16 in our Truth In A World Of Error series and begins Marked Men Part 1, tracing the marks Peter says will eventually rise to the surface.
