Law and grace can feel like a tug of war in the Christian life, and Romans 7 refuses to let us solve it with slogans. We name the two extremes almost everyone drifts toward at some point: license that treats grace like a free pass, and legalism that treats God’s approval like something we earn by keeping a better list. Then we slow down and do the careful work Paul demands, because Romans 7 is too important to rush.

We focus on Romans 7:1-6 and Paul’s picture of marriage, where death ends legal obligation. That single, obvious principle becomes the key that unlocks a profound spiritual shift: the law only has jurisdiction over the living, and believers have been made to die to the law through the body of Christ. We also clear away common confusion by explaining what this passage is not saying about divorce, so we can hear what it is saying about freedom, condemnation, and the limits of law-keeping for sanctification.

From there, everything gets personal. Legalism doesn’t just make us tired; it can make us proud, critical, and unloving, or it can crush us into pretending and burnout. Real growth comes when we see that salvation brings a total change of relationship. We are no longer “married” to the law as our master, but joined to the risen Jesus Christ so we can bear fruit to God and serve in the newness of the Spirit.

If you want clearer assurance, steadier obedience, and a Christ-centered way to read God’s commands, listen now, share this with a friend, and subscribe for more biblical teaching. If it helps you, leave a review so more people can find it.
