The word “access” can sound small until you realize what it meant for real people who lived with walls, courts, priests, and a veil that kept them out. We open Romans 5 and slow down on Romans 5:2, where Paul says we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand. That one verse connects the deepest questions many of us carry: Can God really welcome me? What do I do with guilt that keeps coming back? Is my relationship with God as unstable as my week has been?

We start with the gospel foundation of justification by faith and the objective peace with God that comes through our Lord Jesus Christ. Then we trace the Bible’s story of limited access under the old covenant, the Holy of Holies, and the fear of approaching a holy God. From there we move to the stunning sign at the cross: the temple veil torn from top to bottom, showing that God himself removes the barrier. Hebrews picks up the same invitation, calling believers to draw near with confidence to the throne of grace for mercy and help in time of need.

Finally, we talk about what it means to “stand” in grace, not as a temporary feeling but as a permanent position held by God’s power. We lean on promises like Philippians 1:6, Jude’s assurance that Christ can keep you from stumbling, and the truth that where sin abounds, grace abounds much more.
