Loving Others When It’s Hard

Loving others is easy when relationships are smooth and mutual kindness flows freely. But the real challenge of love appears when someone hurts us, disappoints us, or treats us unfairly. In those moments, forgiveness can feel almost impossible.

Yet Ephesians 4:32 calls us to a higher way: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Notice the standard—just as Christ forgave you.

A Prayer to Express Gratitude for the Gift of God’s People

During difficult seasons, we often look for something steady—something that won’t shift beneath us when fear and uncertainty begin to rise. Scripture reminds us that God Himself is our firm foundation, the rock that holds us steady through every storm. His presence never wavers, and His peace never runs dry.

Yet God, in His kindness, gives us another gift to help sustain us through life’s challenges: His people.

Longing for Restoration | Your Nightly Prayer

There are seasons in life when joy feels distant. Not gone entirely, but quiet—muted beneath layers of grief, waiting, or disappointment. It doesn’t always disappear suddenly. Often it fades slowly as the weight of unanswered prayers and unexpected losses settles into our hearts.

Psalm 51:12 captures a beautiful and honest prayer: “Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” David does not ask for his circumstances to change first. He asks for something deeper—restoration within his heart.

That distinction matters. Joy is not something we manufacture through effort or force through positive thinking. It is something God restores. It is His work in us.

Restoration does not mean erasing the pain we’ve walked through or returning life to how it once was. God’s restoration often means breathing new life into places that have been worn thin by sorrow. It means discovering a joy that is deeper than circumstances—a joy anchored not in outcomes, but in God’s presence.

Your story may still contain waiting. Some questions may remain unanswered. Yet the joy of salvation remains steady because it is rooted in something unchanging: God’s promise that He will never leave you.

Sometimes restored joy arrives quietly. A moment of peace when anxiety once lived. A small sense of hope returning. A reminder that God is still good and still present, even in uncertain seasons.

Tonight, remember that you are allowed to ask God for restoration. You can bring every disappointment, every unanswered prayer, every fragile hope before Him. He knows how to restore what life has worn down.

And He does so gently, faithfully, and in His perfect time.

Main Takeaways

  • Joy can fade during seasons of grief, loss, or long waiting.
  • Psalm 51:12 reminds us that joy is something God restores, not something we force.
  • Restoration does not erase pain but brings new life within it.
  • The joy of salvation is secure even when circumstances are uncertain.
  • God gently renews our hearts as we trust Him with our full story.

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” - Psalm 51:12

Your Evening Prayer

Dear God,

Tonight I come before You carrying the weight of my experiences, the prayers I have prayed, and the hopes that sometimes feel fragile. You see every part of my story.

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. Not a temporary happiness that ignores pain, but a deep and steady joy that comes from knowing You are with me. Renew my heart where waiting has made me weary and bring peace to the places where disappointment still lingers.

Help me trust that You are still at work in my life, even when I cannot see what comes next. Thank You that my identity and hope are secure in You.

As I rest tonight, gently restore my heart and remind me of Your unfailing love.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

A Prayer to Consider the Wildflowers

Sometimes the most profound lessons about faith are found in the simplest parts of creation. Jesus pointed to wildflowers—small, fragile, and easily overlooked—to teach a powerful truth about trust and provision.

In Luke 12:27, Jesus tells us to “consider how the wildflowers grow.” They do not work endlessly to secure their future. They do not worry about appearance or provision. Yet God clothes them with beauty that surpasses even the splendor of King Solomon.

This invitation is more than poetic imagery—it is a challenge to our anxious hearts. So much of our energy is spent striving: trying to secure financial stability, maintain control over our circumstances, or ensure everything unfolds according to our plans. Worry can quietly dominate our thoughts, convincing us that everything depends on our effort.

But the wildflowers tell another story.

They grow in quiet dependence. They trust the sun to rise and the rain to fall. Without striving, they flourish exactly as God designed them. Their beauty reflects the care of the Creator who sustains them.

Jesus used this image to remind His listeners that if God cares for something as small and temporary as a flower, how much more does He care for His children?

Worry often pulls our attention toward what we lack or what might go wrong. But when we shift our focus to God’s provision—seen throughout creation—we remember that He is attentive, present, and faithful.

Considering the wildflowers is not about ignoring real concerns. It is about remembering who ultimately holds our lives in His hands. As we seek God first, He promises to provide what we truly need.

Main Takeaways

  • Jesus used the wildflowers as a reminder of God’s faithful provision.
  • Worry often distracts us from trusting God’s care.
  • Creation reflects God’s attention to detail and beauty.
  • Faith involves releasing control and trusting God’s provision.
  • Seeking God first brings peace that replaces anxiety.

Today’s Bible Verse

Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. — Luke 12:27 (NIV)

Your Quiet Obedience Matters | Your Nightly Prayer

Obedience often feels most important in the big moments of life—major decisions, life-changing opportunities, or dramatic acts of faith. But more often than not, our spiritual lives are shaped by small moments of obedience that seem insignificant at the time.

A quiet prompting to take a different path.

A nudge to show extra diligence in your work.

A gentle conviction to do what is right, even when it would be easier not to.

These moments may appear small, but they matter deeply to God.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” That means every task, every responsibility, every decision—whether anyone sees it or not—is an opportunity to honor God through faithful obedience.

Sometimes we obey and immediately see the benefit. Other times, we may never know what our obedience protected us from or how it influenced someone else. Yet God does not measure obedience by outcomes. He measures it by faithfulness.

You are not responsible for controlling the results of your obedience. God is. Your responsibility is simply to listen and respond.

When you obey in the small things, you build a heart that trusts God in the bigger things. And even when you feel tired, unnoticed, or unmotivated, choosing obedience is still an act of worship.

Tonight, remember this: your quiet obedience matters more than you realize.

Main Takeaways

  • Small acts of obedience often shape our faith more than big moments.
  • Colossians 3:23 reminds us that our work and actions are ultimately for the Lord.
  • Obedience is measured by faithfulness, not by visible outcomes.
  • God may use small decisions to guide, protect, or shape our lives in ways we cannot see.
  • Quiet obedience is an expression of trust and worship.

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord." - Colossians 3:23

Your Evening Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for speaking and guiding my life. Help me develop a heart that listens carefully for Your voice. Give me the willingness to obey, even in the small things that may seem insignificant.

When I feel tired or unmotivated, remind me that everything I do can be done for You. Help me work with integrity, diligence, and faithfulness, knowing that You see every act of obedience.

Teach me to trust You with the outcomes and to leave the results in Your hands. May my life reflect a quiet obedience that honors You in all things.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

A Prayer to Grow in Godly Wisdom

A Prayer to Grow in Godly Wisdom | Your Daily Prayer

In a world filled with information, knowledge is easy to find—but wisdom is much harder to obtain. Ideas and philosophies often come packaged attractively, appearing thoughtful, progressive, or insightful. Yet appearances can be misleading. Just as a beautifully designed book may contain poor content, teachings that seem appealing can still lead us away from truth.

The Bible reminds us that true wisdom has a very specific starting point: “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom” (Job 28:28). This “fear” is not terror, but reverence—a deep respect for God’s authority, holiness, and truth. It means recognizing that God’s understanding far surpasses our own.

From the very beginning, humanity has struggled to distinguish between worldly knowledge and godly wisdom. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent presented deception in an appealing way, making disobedience appear wise and desirable. That same pattern continues today. Sin often looks attractive, and worldly ideas are frequently praised as enlightened or progressive.

Yet Scripture consistently points us in another direction. Godly wisdom flows from knowing God and aligning our lives with His Word. It is cultivated through studying Scripture, praying for understanding, and surrounding ourselves with voices that strengthen our faith.

Sometimes choosing God’s wisdom may look foolish to the world. Obedience, humility, and holiness are not always celebrated in modern culture. But what appears foolish to the world is often the path of true wisdom before God.

The greatest treasure we can pursue is not influence, wealth, or intellectual achievement—it is a heart that reveres God and seeks His truth. When we begin there, our choices, priorities, and understanding start to align with His perfect wisdom.

Main Takeaways

  • Knowledge is abundant, but true wisdom comes from God.
  • The fear of the Lord—reverence and obedience—is the beginning of wisdom.
  • Worldly ideas can appear appealing but may lead away from truth.
  • Godly wisdom grows through Scripture, prayer, and faithful community.
  • Obedience to God may seem foolish to the world but reflects true wisdom.

Today’s Bible Verse

“Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? … And he said to the human race, ‘The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding” (Job 28:20, 28, NIV).

Evening Prayer | God Sees the Hidden Sacrifice | Your Nightly Prayer

Many of the most meaningful acts of faith happen where no one else can see them. Quiet sacrifices. Small acts of generosity. Prayers whispered in the dark. Choosing patience when you’re exhausted. Giving when it would be easier to keep. These moments rarely receive recognition, and sometimes they can even feel invisible.

But Jesus reminds us of a comforting truth: “Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” God’s attention is not drawn only to public victories or impressive achievements. His eyes are attentive to the hidden places of faithfulness—the moments when you choose obedience simply because you love Him.

The world often measures value by visibility. Applause, recognition, and attention are seen as proof that something matters. Yet God measures differently. He sees the quiet discipline of prayer when no one knows you’re interceding. He notices the sacrifices made to care for others. He recognizes the generosity that happens without announcement.

Every unseen act of love is known by Him.

This means your faithfulness is never wasted. The small decisions you make each day to follow Christ—though unnoticed by others—are deeply valued by your Father. In the quiet places of your life, where obedience costs something and no one applauds, God is present. He sees. He knows. And He treasures the heart behind every hidden act.

Tonight, rest in this truth: you are not overlooked. Your faithfulness, even when unseen, matters to God.

Main Takeaways

  • God sees every act of faithfulness, even those hidden from others.
  • Quiet obedience and unseen sacrifices are deeply valued by the Lord.
  • The world celebrates visibility, but God honors sincerity of heart.
  • Faithfulness in the secret places builds a life of devotion to God.
  • You are never unnoticed by your Heavenly Father.

Your Evening Prayer

Father,

Thank You for seeing what no one else sees. In moments when my sacrifices feel unnoticed, remind me that my service is ultimately for You. Help me to choose faithfulness not for recognition, but out of love for You.

Give me the strength to keep walking in quiet obedience. Let my heart remain focused on Your approval rather than the praise of others. ThankYou for valuing the small acts of faith that often go unseen.

Teach me to trust that every moment of faithfulness matters in Your kingdom.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

A Prayer to Experience the Freedom of Forgiveness | Your Daily Prayer

Forgiveness is one of the most difficult commands Jesus gives—and one of the most freeing. When someone deeply wounds us, the natural response is to hold tightly to the hurt. We replay the moment, rehearse the injustice, and quietly hope that somehow the person responsible will feel the weight of what they did.

But unforgiveness slowly becomes its own prison.

Galatians 5:1 reminds us that Christ set us free so we would no longer live in bondage. Yet when we hold onto bitterness, we place a yoke back on our own shoulders. The offense may have been real and painful, but the burden of carrying resentment can slowly consume our hearts.

Forgiveness does not mean excusing wrongdoing or pretending the pain never happened. It does not mean that justice is ignored or that trust is instantly restored. Instead, forgiveness means releasing the right to hold someone’s offense over them and entrusting justice to God.

Jesus demonstrated this ultimate act of mercy on the cross. Even as He was being crucified, He prayed for those who harmed Him. Through His sacrifice, our sins were forgiven completely—removed as far as the east is from the west. When we remember how much we have been forgiven, it reshapes how we approach the forgiveness of others.

Unforgiveness isolates us from the freedom Christ intends for us. Bitterness quietly grows, affecting our peace, our relationships, and even our fellowship with God. But when we release that burden—sometimes slowly, sometimes painfully—we make room for healing.

The Holy Spirit empowers us to forgive even when it feels impossible. Forgiveness is not a feeling we wait for; it is a step of obedience we choose. And when we choose it, we begin to experience the freedom Christ died to give us.

Main Takeaways

  • Unforgiveness creates emotional and spiritual bondage.
  • Forgiveness releases the burden of bitterness and resentment.
  • Forgiving does not excuse wrongdoing but entrusts justice to God.
  • Christ’s sacrifice reminds us how deeply we have been forgiven.
  • The Holy Spirit empowers believers to forgive even deep wounds.

Give Us Clean Hands | Your Nightly Prayer

It’s possible to do the right thing for the wrong reason. Outwardly, everything can look faithful, obedient, even spiritual—while inwardly, pride, insecurity, comparison, or the desire for approval quietly drive us.

Psalm 24 asks a sobering question: “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?” The answer isn’t impressive résumés or visible success in ministry. It’s “clean hands and a pure heart.”

Clean hands speak to our actions. A pure heart speaks to our motives.

The challenging part about motives is how subtle they can be. We can serve and secretly want recognition. We can give and quietly hope to be noticed. We can help and still desire control. Sometimes we don’t even realize what is shaping our “why.”

But nothing is hidden from God. He sees beyond performance and into intention. That truth isn’t meant to frighten us—it’s meant to free us. Because the God who sees our motives is also the God who invites us to bring them to Him.

A pure heart doesn’t mean a flawless one. It means a humble one. A heart willing to say, “Lord, search me.” A heart that responds with repentance when conviction comes. A heart that values God’s glory more than personal recognition.

When we allow God to examine our “why,” He gently realigns us. He purifies what is mixed. He cleanses what is selfish. He restores what is crooked. And He welcomes us into His presence—not because we are perfect, but because we are honest.

Tonight, let this be your quiet prayer: Lord, make my heart clean. Let what I do for You truly be for You.

Main Takeaways

  • God cares not only about our actions, but about our motives.

  • Wrong motives can hide beneath right behavior.

  • A pure heart is humble, honest, and quick to repent.

  • God reveals our inner condition not to shame us, but to refine us.

  • Clean hands and a pure heart position us to walk closely with Him.

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.” - Psalm 24:3-4

Your Evening Prayer

Lord,

You see beyond my actions into the motives of my heart. Nothing is hidden from You. Search me and reveal anything in me that is not aligned with Your will.

If I have served for recognition, given for praise, or acted from pride, forgive me. Cleanse my hands and purify my heart. Help me to do what is right for the right reason. Let Your glory matter more to me than approval, success, or reward.

Shape my heart so that my service flows from love and gratitude. I want to stand before You with honesty and humility.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Robert J. Morgan Explains Why the Church Still Needs Hymns

Pastor and bestselling author Robert J. Morgan joins Crosswalk Talk's Michael Foust to discuss his new book The Origin of Hymns, which is featured in the new film I Can Only Imagine 2. He explains how the book came together after filmmakers realized the story needed a real hymns book like the one seen in the movie. Morgan also shares what makes a hymn different from modern worship songs and why churches lose something when they stop singing them. Plus, he reflects on the powerful stories behind beloved hymns like It Is Well With My Soul and why those songs still resonate today.

A Prayer to Trust God's Provision When Resources Run Low | Your Daily Prayer

There are seasons when effort seems to outpace results. You work hard, try new approaches, send the emails, make the calls—and still find yourself staring at closed doors. Resources shrink. Energy fades. Options dwindle. And quietly, fear begins to whisper: What now?

Philippians 4:19 speaks directly into that fear: “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t promise provision according to your productivity, your strategy, or your remaining strength. It points to His riches—not yours.

When resources run low, it exposes where we’ve placed our trust. It’s easy to believe provision flows from our effort, our networking, or our careful planning. But God’s supply has never depended on human capacity. His storehouses do not empty. His generosity does not fluctuate. His timing does not panic.

In the Old Testament, God instructed His people to let the land rest every seventh year. That rest wasn’t just agricultural—it was spiritual. It was a lesson in trust. Could they believe He would provide even when they weren’t producing?

Sometimes running on empty is not punishment. It is invitation. An invitation to rest. An invitation to release control. An invitation to remember that God’s provision flows from His abundance, not your exhaustion.

If you feel depleted—emotionally, physically, financially, or spiritually—remember this: your limits do not limit God. When you are empty, He is still full.

Main Takeaways

  • God’s provision is based on His riches, not our resources.
  • Seasons of depletion reveal where we place our trust.
  • Resting can be an act of faith in God’s provision.
  • Productivity does not determine God’s faithfulness.
  • When we are empty, God remains abundant.

The Lord is Still Your Shepherd

Some days make gratitude easy. Others leave us exhausted, disappointed, or quietly discouraged. When a hard season stretches longer than we expected, it can begin to feel like we are wandering without direction—left to figure it out on our own.

But Psalm 23 begins with a steady declaration: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

A shepherd does not abandon his flock when the terrain gets rough. He does not disappear when wolves lurk nearby or when the valley grows dark. He guides. He protects. He stays close.

When David wrote these words, he did not say, “The Lord was my shepherd,” or “The Lord will be my shepherd.” He said is. Present tense. Ongoing care. Active provision.

Even when gratitude feels thin, your Shepherd is still guiding.

Even when fear whispers loudly, your Shepherd is still near.

Even when provision seems delayed, your Shepherd is still preparing what you need.

Psalm 23 reminds us that valleys are places we walk through, not places we remain forever. The Shepherd’s presence transforms the valley from a place of abandonment into a place of companionship. “You are close beside me.” That closeness is the difference between panic and peace.

Tonight, if your heart feels heavy, let this truth steady you: you are not wandering alone. The same Shepherd who led you yesterday is leading you still. His guidance has not paused. His protection has not weakened. His provision has not run dry.

He is still your Shepherd.

Main Takeaways

  • God’s care is present and ongoing—He is your Shepherd today.

  • Valleys are temporary passages, not permanent homes.

  • The Shepherd guides, comforts, protects, and provides in every season.

  • Even when gratitude feels distant, God’s presence remains near.

  • Peace comes from knowing the Shepherd walks beside you.

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” - Psalm 23:1 ESV

Your Evening Prayer

Dear Lord,

Some days feel heavy, and tonight I may not see clearly where You are leading. But Your Word reminds me that You are still my Shepherd. You guide me when I cannot see the path. You protect me when fear rises. You provide for me even when I feel uncertain.

Help me rest in Your presence. Quiet my anxious thoughts. Remind me that this valley is not forever and that You are walking beside me through it.

With You as my Shepherd, I truly have all that I need.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer for Help to Spring Ahead With Daylight Savings Time | Your Daily Prayer

Twice a year, we adjust our clocks—but it often feels like our bodies and routines take much longer to adjust. Daylight Saving Time can disrupt sleep, slow our mornings, and leave us feeling out of sync. While it may seem like a small inconvenience, even minor shifts can reveal how tightly we cling to our schedules and sense of control.

Joshua 10:13 reminds us that God alone holds authority over time. When the sun stood still, it was not human effort that altered the day, but divine power. We cannot stop or stretch time, but we can trust the One who governs it.

Ecclesiastes tells us there is a season for everything. God establishes times and purposes beyond our understanding. Even when change feels inconvenient, His timing remains perfect. Adjustments—whether seasonal or personal—invite us to surrender our rhythms to Him.

It’s easy to grumble when sleep is lost or routines are disrupted. Yet even in something as ordinary as a clock change, we are given an opportunity: will we respond with frustration, or with trust?

God uses seasons and shifts to refine our patience, remind us of our dependence, and redirect our focus. His timing is not random. He makes everything beautiful in its time—even the transitions we resist.

As you “spring ahead,” remember that your schedule is not sovereign. God is. And He is faithful to guide your steps at exactly the right pace.

Main Takeaways

  • God alone has authority over time.
  • Seasonal changes can reveal our reliance on routine and control.
  • Ecclesiastes reminds us that God appoints every season with purpose.
  • Even small disruptions offer opportunities to practice gratitude and trust.
  • God’s timing is steady, purposeful, and good.

Today’s Bible Verse

“So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.” - Joshua 10:13

Grace for Every Moment | Your Nightly Prayer

Lent can begin with strong intention—clear focus, meaningful sacrifice, renewed devotion. But somewhere along the way, weariness can set in. The fast feels harder than expected. The discipline exposes weakness. Instead of feeling closer to God, you may feel more aware of your shortcomings.

Psalm 86:15 gently redirects our gaze: “You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”

Lent was never meant to be a performance review. It is an invitation into relationship. God is not watching your efforts with a clipboard in hand, tallying your success or failure. He is compassionate. He sees your desire to draw near. He honors the small, imperfect steps taken toward Him.

Grace is not reserved for the moment you “get it right.” Grace is present in every moment—especially the faltering ones. It is what draws you back when you drift. It is what steadies you when discipline feels heavy. It is what reminds you that your salvation was secured not by your striving, but by Christ’s finished work on the cross.

The heart of this season is not how well you fast, but how deeply you receive. God’s love is slow to anger, rich in mercy, and overflowing with faithfulness. Even now—especially now—there is grace for you.

Rest there tonight.

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness." - Psalm 86:15

Your Evening Prayer

Father,

Thank You for being compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in love. When I grow weary or feel like I’m falling short, remind me that Your grace is not dependent on my performance.

Draw me close—not through pressure, but through peace. Help me rest in what Jesus has already accomplished. Teach me to receive Your mercy daily and to extend that same grace to others.

Let Your love anchor my heart and quiet my striving.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
