Fr. Emmanuel Charles McCarthy, Catholic priest, author/lecturer, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, former U.S. Marine and a committed advocate of the non-violent path of Jesus provides a powerfully candid discussion of the failings of the Christian church to reject nationalistic violence and follow the commandment to “Love your enemies.” (Parts 1 and 2)

In Part 1, Fr. McCarthy remarks that “In a community of cannibals it is difficult to raise the issue that cannibalism is against the will of God” to example how Christians have developed an acceptance of violence and have rejected Jesus as a consequence. “If we cannot know from the New Testament that Jesus rejected violence, then we can no nothing about his personal message.”

Part II.
Vivian and McCarthy engage us in a discussion of the clergy’s responsibility to teach the Gospel principles of justice, mercy and peace. Why is the church not standing up for those in the greatest need? “Where is the church in creating a society that works for the human spirit?How is God going to treat us as ministers when he looks at our ministries that remain silent to the core issues of justice, mercy and peace?” Vivian remarks, “We have the best Christianity that money can buy?” What does McCarthy mean when he compares church today to a Las Vegas prostitute? In Part I, Vivian and McCarthy share their varied experiences and insights about the connections of poverty and violence in our world where one person dies of starvation every 9 seconds, “If you want the most luxurious society in the world then you need to have the greatest military to protect it.”

In both episodes, John Carmody, a neuroscientist and highly decorated Viet Nam era Marine, explains how the young are recruited into the military at an age when the brain centers of higher reasoning, compassion and empathy are still immature, and while the lower brain functions of aggression and violence more developed and is more susceptible to the training to kill without mercy or conscience.

During much of my life I had a difficult time trusting God and being at peace with him. Consequently, I had a difficult time trusting Him with my will and my life. Through a series of events I learned some valuable lesson. I wrote about those lessons in July of 2007. Recently I decided to make this video series to share that article in this format. This is a video that Chris made to show God's amazing work in our lives. God has blessed us with a beautiful little girl, Hadley, who was born with Down Syndrome. As the song by Mark Schultz so accurately describes, we found out that something was wrong with Hadley's heart at 20 weeks into the pregnancy, and were given grim options. We knew that God's plan was bigger than we could imagine, and with his healing hand, were given an amazing little girl 20 weeks later!

Much has been said about life being a choice. Yet, even more than a person’s choice – life is a gift from God, and a precious one at that. This video will encourage us all to remember that every child born is truly a gift of God that was hand-made by God to display His image and glory. Pain and suffering are the common denominators of the human experience. God told us we would have trouble. There will be trials and ordeals.
We are going to deal with suffering, wounds, loss and pain in this life.
Dr. Swanson teaches from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 which provides assurance that God promises to comfort us when we are in pain. He comforts us with His presence.
When someone is in need they are comforted by the presence of another, so it is with God. The power of the scripture is that God will come and be with us. The presence of the living God dwells with us that gives us hope and comforts us.
He also assures us that our pain is never going to be wasted. It will be redeemed because God will give us the opportunity to comfort others with the comfort He has given us.
