How many tomorrows have you already lived in your mind?
Perhaps you've rehearsed the appointment before it happens.
Imagined the difficult conversation.
Calculated the financial problem again.
Wondered what your child will decide.
Considered every possible outcome of the prayer you're still waiting for God to answer.
Before tomorrow has even arrived, you've already visited it again and again.
And usually, the version we imagine is not peaceful.
It is filled with worst-case scenarios.
Jesus knew how easily the human mind moves into the future. That is why His question in Matthew 6 is so simple and so piercing:
"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"
Worry often disguises itself as preparation.
We tell ourselves that if we imagine every possible outcome, perhaps we'll be better equipped when something goes wrong.
But worry does not protect us.
More often, it exhausts us.
It causes us to carry burdens that may never become real while missing the grace that is already real today.
